Agree with your comment, but you could offer it as a separate stacking board. Startech do a 1.25gbit sfp that can be used for mm/sm cheap as well

The switch we will use will have the ability to connect to an SFP fairly easily, so this is definitely possible.

Josh Elijah: Josh, just go to the starch.com site pick the sfps and filter to mm/sm option they have a few options. Plenty of gel filled LC connectors out there that you dont need special tools to terminate

Michael Dickinson: What would be even better would be a compact LC connector, like this from Stratos. Unfortunately they're currently on a long lead time, and also come at a cost of around $200 per unit.
I think the best approach here would be to simply breakout the XFI interface (This is what SFP needs) so that a stackable board could be added later to implement the SFP.
